Default Wes Hess in Critical Condition :(

Talked to Wes just the other day about a clutch for my car, this is terrible, a HUGE loss to the DSM world.

I never met Wes but I'd say alot more than just the DSM world lost a great guy. He was a DSM innovator, served in this country's Armed forces proudly, and I'm sure touched many lives.

Thanks for all you did Wes, RIP, you'll be missed.

I never met Wes hell I never even had a chance to talk to him, but I always looked forward to his posts. You always knew you would learn something from his posts. My sincerest well wishes go out to his family and friends, as well as the driver and his family. Having worked in a kitchen a long time I have burned myself pretty bad before, but something like this is my worst nightmare.

I want to send my condolences out to the Hess family. This very thing is what scares me to "street" tune my car.

Earlier in 2008, the Chicago racing scene lost one of its more flavorful, memorable members. At the next RSD (Real Street Drags (street racing event held at the track)) event, they had a close friend/relative/family member pilot the car at a slow pace down the 1320 in remembrance of their fallen friend. I know this board and a LOT of the DSM community is becoming anti-Buschur lately. But...putting our hatred of Buschur aside, you think someone could bring his car to the Shootout, and possibly see if Dave will let us do that, in memory of Wes Hess?

Truly sucks. I spoke to Wes quite a bit not only about DSM's but about his military career, etc. He was a great guy and would go out of his way to help. He will be missed and in my prayers. R.I.P. Wes.

Oh my god this it terrible. I've been talking with Wes about some parts of his build-in-progress over the past couple weeks, he seemed like an absolutely great guy and I was very impressed with his attention to detail. Man this sucks, what a tragedy.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. R.I.P. Wes.

I am sick to my stomach, I just talked with him last week. Wess and I have always talked over the years and he was one of the good guys. I think I finally had him convinced to go the proven route with his dsm so he could at least enjoy it for awhile.

This definitely took the wind out of my sail today. I was excited for the holiday and it just brings you back to reality to see how fragile life can be. Wes will truly be missed by the community as he was always contributing.

If anyone knows how we can donate anything to the family, please post it up.

Wes always seemed to be pushing everyone to continue to innovate with new designs, header work, fabrication, the whole 9-yards.

Never met him in person, but was always very impressed with everything he put his mind to.

Great contributor, seemed like a great friend, thoughts go out to his friends, family, and those who knew him better than I. Too many friends of this forum have been lost over the years, that goes without saying.

Hopefully he is a better place, RIP.

Wow, that is terrible news. I never met him but he seemed like a great guy from my online dealings with him. Definitely a big loss for the DSM scene. As Mike mentioned, it's also pretty scary to read about, as often as I street tune powerful cars (almost weekly) it's just a reminder how easily things can go wrong. I'm sure I'm not the only one that questions their driving habits more and more every time we lose someone to "fast car" related accident. I like Mike's idea of the memorial pass as well.

I'm running one of his clutches in my 5 speed car. When I bought it from him, he was having issues with his supplier and the whole transaction was about as far from smooth as possible. Throughout the whole experience Wes was a great stand-up guy. He answered the phone every time I called and we talked for hours about everything. Afterwards, he was a great support while I was working out all the kinks and I really felt like he was a guy I'd love to hang out with some day. I really looked forward to meeting him, and I regret that I never got to.

Wow, this is a sad dose of reality. I'll be sending Wes and the other victims all the good thoughts I can muster up! As a former burn victim I know he's gonna need all the help he can get from us as he recovers. It's a long hard road. If he ends up being transferred to the Oregon Burn Center (supposed to be one of the best in the country??) I'll be heading up to visit him for sure. I also have several containers of some really expensive burn dressing that was left over from my accident. I'd like to send them his way when the time's right. Stay strong Wes!

Has anyone been in touch with his family to see how they are holding up? I no longer have his home phone number.

Does anyone know if a fund has been established to help cover medical costs?

Just got off the phone with the hospital, he is still in very critical condition -- currently in the Surgical ICU unit.

If I'm able to get in touch with his wife and get more details I will let you all know.

    Will,
Let us know just as soon as you hear something. I just edited the thread title due to change in news.

    Default I am so sorry!

    I feel terrible.
Just a while ago, Wes gave me some great & valuable advice in my HKS cams thread. I felt so appreciative.

Then I read his sig 'DSMs have ruined my life'. I interpreted this as a somewhat depressed statement - from a person who dedicated his life unselfishly to the advancement of his dream, and, as it goes in the course of these things, was having some bad luck. A temporary state that would change when he saw how many people appreciated his work.

So I wrote him a note on his profile page and asked to be his friend and he accepted - the only one I have on the board!

As far as I am concerned, he truly is one of the good guys - the few. People like that need to be kept in the fore of our minds as leaders in the DSM/NABR community during normal times. Now, as we pray for his recovery, we can reflect on all his contributions.

    Wes, Godspeed.

Wess has helped me out with transmissions builds and engine stuff, I even have his old turbo on my car. Hopefully they both pull through. According to the news, they think the other car hit them in the rear, which is better, but it caught the car on fire.

Lubbock has a really good hopsital, we were in a wreck with an 18 wheeler in an evo, and my friend was airlifted to lubbock, he ended up pulling through after people thought he was dead.

Is anyone in direct contact with his family? I think it is just his wife and kids down there with him, maybe we could scroung some money for travel for other family members.

Also, do we have any local (to Lubbock) NABR members?

If so, drag your ass to the hospital and find out if his family and friends need anything while they are there waiting this out.

Lubbock is 2 hours from here, I could possibly drive up there, but I have only met his wife for 5 minutes. There are a handfull of guys down there who he knows. I was thinking more along the lines of getting family, instead of a near stranger, if it is even possible to fly out on xmas eve, who knows they might be there already.

I know he is pretty good friends with the owner of the impala in the fab section. I will try and find his info.

    Ah, shitty.

    I hope he pulls through.

Please pass my regards to his family.

In theory, there's no difference between "theory" and "practice". In practice, there is.
